The best mirrorless cameras of 2018

Nikon Z6

Definitely a big surprise for the market, Nikon launching quality mirrorless cameras, and for lack of 1 they launched 2 Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7.

It is not just the launch of a new camera for Nikon but the launch of a completely new system, but still compatible with what already exists on the market. With the launch of these two cameras, Nikon brings to the market its new flange, fitting region of the lenses, and with that opens up the competition between Full frame mirrorless cameras that is dominated by Sony.

Nikon Z6 main specs

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Full frame CMOS
  • Megapixels: 24.5 MP
  • Monitor: EVF, 3,690k points, 100% coverage
  • Continuous shooting speed: 12fps
  • Display: EVF | Maximum video resolution: 4K UHD at 30p
  • Released: September / 2018

The Nikon Z6 is a great option for those who already own a collection of lenses from the same brand. That’s because you can use your Nikon lenses on the brand new flange using an adapter. This camera has excellent image quality, even at the highest ISO.

It records videos, full frame, in 4K, it really uses the entire size of the sensor when making videos.

It has a good buffer for the hours of continuous shooting, it does not have a large battery, about 310 photos per charge. Things like image stabilization on the sensor are present and are new for those who use Nikon. Despite having fewer megapixels than the Z7 to Z6, it is much more versatile and costs ⅓ the price of its “richest” sister.

Who is the Z6 for?

This is the big question. I believe that everyone who is starting in photography and has this camera at their disposal will not regret it.

At the same time if you are already a user of Nikon cameras you will feel completely at home using a Z6. Regardless of the level you find today, both the Z6 and the Z7 are great options. They are 5 star cameras and will give you a lot to talk about yet and are definitely among the best mirrorless cameras of 2018 To give this girl a chance you can buy her at this link here.

Fujifilm X-T3

One of the most anticipated launches by many people, me in the mix too, the Fujifilm Xt-3 hits the market with co complains at all. To find any major flaw on the X-T3 you will have to look hard, and for many people it will not turn out to be such big defects.

Fujifilm X-T3

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 26.1MP
  • Monitor: EVF, 3,690k points, 100% coverage
  • Continuous shooting speed: 11 fps
  • Display: EVF
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K
  • Released: September / 2018

With a beautiful 26.1 Mp sensor, the XT-3 has everything to be the darling of those who like street photography. Because it has great resolution and image quality and with all the style of colors from Fuji it is difficult not to fall in love with this camera.

The video recording quality is also a tale in itself, especially for a camera of this value. It is capable of recording 4K videos at 60 FPS, which few do. We also have a great autofocus with 100% sensor coverage. The only thing that makes me a little sad is not to see the 5-axis stabilization on the sensor in this camera, but for this price you can’t ask for a miracle.

Who is the Fujifilm Xt-3 for ?

This camera is for anyone who want to start or continue taking photos with a great and reliable equipment.  Style, image quality, video quality and everything in a tiny box and not so expensive. Grab yours here.

Nikon Z7

The camera that no one expects Nikon to launch so fast has arrived, and arrived with the Z6 that we talked about above. The Nikon Z7 practically needs no comment, after all it is a Z6 on steroids, but with a different mission.

Z7’s mission is to make life a little tougher for the Sony A7RIII, which is Sony’s megapixel monster.

However this front only stops in the specifications because the prices are very different. The Nikon Z7 is a great camera, but for the price it should deliver a little more than the 5-axis stabilization on the sensor and the 493 points of autofocus.

Nikon Z7

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Full frame CMOS
  • Megapixels: 45.7MP
  • Monitor: EVF, 3,690k points, 100% coverage
  • Continuous shooting speed: 9 fps
  • Display: EVF
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K UHD at 30 fps
  • Released: September / 2018

Who is the Nikon Z7 for?

A little more specific than her little sister, the Z7 is for those with money left over. Although it is a great camera, with all the good things in the Z6 and more, the high price can be a problem for most, other than that, those who are happy to own such a beauty will have no problem with photos and videos. Canon EOS R

It seems like a joke, right, as soon as Nikon launch a great camera, the Z6, Canon go there and continue their historical fight by launching another great camera to EOS R.

With an autofocus system that makes many other cameras jealous, the EOS R is what we can call 5D MKIV mirrorless. It has a 30.3 Mp sensor that produces great images.

It has great ability to customize menus, as there are several options that can be assigned to different function buttons. It only sins on one or two points. 4K video recording is cropped, does not use the sensor completely. And it has no image stabilization in the body.

Canon EOS R

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Full frame CMOS
  • Megapixels: 30.3 MP
  • Monitor: EVF, 3.69m points, 100% coverage
  • Continuous shooting speed: 8 fps
  • Display: EVF
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K UHD at 29.97 fps
  • Released: September / 2018

Who is the Canon EOS R for?

Leaving aside minor slips in the project, 4k cropped and lack of IBIS, the Canon EOS R still postulates among the best mirrorless cameras of 2018 as it brings a new flagship to life from one of the leaders in the photographic market.

With the compatibility of older lenses via adapters, and the largely celebrated Dual Pixel AF autofocus system, the EOS R is a great choice for anyone who wants a great camera. If you already is inside in Canon system it’s worth the upgrade, if you don’t use it know that you have a great option on this camera here.

Sony Alpha A7 III

Sony Alpha A7III was certainly one of the most celebrated releases of the year in the world of lovers of mirrorless cameras. It was an almost perfect release, until the middle of the year at least. It has a great autofocus system that works perfectly for photos, but not so much for videos, let’s wait for a firmware update. It has 4K video recording at up to 30 fps and 1080p at up to 120 fps.

The A7III does not win this year’s megapixel battle, but it is certainly a great piece of equipment, mainly due to the evolution of the brand in this segment in the last 4 years.

Sony Alpha A7 III

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Exmor R CMOS
  • Megapixels: 24.2 MP
  • Monitor: XGA OLED type, 2,359,296 dots
  • Continuous shooting speed: 10 fps
  • Display: 3 on touch screen, 921,600 points
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K UHD at 30 / 24fps
  • Releases: February / 2018

Given the quality that the Sony A7 III delivers and the price it costs, it is almost certain to share the top spot among the best mirrorless cameras of 2018 with the Nikon Z6.

Panasonic Lumix G9

4 G6z

This could be the big camera of 2018 if it weren’t for some details. The Lumix G9 impresses anyone who likes wildlife photography, or sports photography, as it does this job very well.

The details that make it a fish out of water are the MFT sensor and the price. Even though it is not the most expensive camera on the list, not even by far, its price is a problem because the competition is very high in this price range when we do not include the factor “shooting speed”. I would very much like to be wrong, but it is a fact.

Panasonic Lumix G9

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Micro Four Thirds Sensor
  • Megapixels: 20.3MP
  • Monitor: EVF, 3.68m points and 1.66x magnification
  • Continuous shooting speed: 60fps
  • Display: Illuminated top plate LCD screen
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K
  • Released: January / 2018

If you want to give this runner up a chance just click here, the price is much lower than you think.

Sony A6000

HRH2V39SE0d3Pnfd

Launched over 3 years ago, the Sony A6000 may look like a “child’s toy” today, but make no mistake it still has a lot of blood to give. The cost of this little girl with the kit lens presents an excellent situation for entering the world of photography or the world of mirrorless cameras. It has a good number of shots in continuous shooting and for the price a great autofocus system.

Sony A6000

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 24.3MP
  • Lens mount: Sony E
  • Monitor: 3-inch tilt, 921,600 dots
  • Continuous shooting speed: 11 fps
  • Display: Electronic
  • Maximum video resolution: 1080p
  • Released: Fevereiro / 2014

It does not have the newest features, such as touch screen, WI FI or NFC, but it is still a great option for those who want to take great photos. If you are looking for a backup camera that will hold the wave and won’t break your bank click here and be happy.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

8xCMRO1nWlzOsLgph94wGd6JA PEUIwhHmTgfxFGQz1GXeHAfsQTZnsuTkY6p lgYTcXK

Despite not having so many changes compared to its predecessors, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is a great option for those who want a camera that does everything right.

Perhaps the only caveat about this camera is its 16.1 sensor that looks like it when compared to the closest competitors. The highlight and where Olympus excels is in the image stabilization on the sensor, which works magically well.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Micro four thirds
  • Megapixels: 16.1MP
  • Lens Mount: Micro Four Thirds
  • Screen: 3-inch tiltable touch screen, 1,037,000 dots
  • Display: Electronic
  • Maximum burst speed: 8.6fps
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K
  • Released: September / 2017

Even though I am not a big fan of the MFT system, I have to give my arm a twist and agree that it is possible to use almost any lens with such a camera via adapters. And maybe this is what makes you want to buy an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

Fujifilm X-T20

I’m a fan of the retro design that Fuji decided to use in its products, even if this means compromising ergonomics a little. As for image quality there is not much to say about Fuji, as it is always something very well done and you can’t  expected nothing less from the brand.

With a great number of images in continuous shooting, the ability to record videos in 4k, touch screen and tilt, the X-T20 is not just an option for those who like street photography.

Fujifilm X-T20

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 24.3MP
  • Lens Mount: Fuji X
  • Screen: 3-inch tiltable touch screen, 1,040,000 dots
  • Display: Electronic
  • Continuous shooting speed: 8 fps
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K
  • Released: January / 2017

Price, image quality, design and great options in prime lenses make the Fujifilm X-T20 postulate in the best mirrorless cameras of 2018. Click here and see more.

Fujifilm X-H1

Perhaps the best Fujifilm all around camera lives here, at least in the mirrorless APS-C segment. Putting together everything that worked on the X-T2 and bringing improvements requested by the public, the X-H1 is a full plate for those who want great equipment.

They are not only a great camera for those who want to take pictures, but also for those who want to record videos, as the brand’s first major move to overtake Panasonic’s GH-5.

It Combines the 24.3 Mp X-TRANS III image sensor with body image stabilization, a fast image processor, X-Processor Pro, and a reliable autofocus system, the X-H1 is a great buy.

Fujifilm X-H1

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: APS-C
  • Megapixels: 24.3MP
  • Lens Mount: Fuji X
  • Screen: Touch-sensitive with 3-inch vari-angle, 1,040,000 dots
  • Display: Electronic
  • Continuous shooting speed: 8 fps (up to 14 fps)
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K
  • Released: February / 2018

For many it will look great for a mirrorless camera, for others It  looks very expensive for a camera with APS-C sensor, but the fact is that the X-H1 was one of the most well received news in 2018. Buy yours here.

Sony A9

JAwhCiHcAv3D79bSsuwv3BToPy4JUcKNE3Y8PF6R27wvE02ZmYjYVZT3nOqGitSKmlOF0RA6fC ECCyRSVS3R4XlI6ifFXCKlgLOJVjhkigRceNIcA1SGvR3mjYnl9b71jBdHLbM

Considered by many to be the best camera from Sony, the A9 comes to “cover” a hole that did not need to be covered.

The Sony A9 is often referred to as a professional camera, a camera designed for sport and wildlife photography, which you can endure a lot of situations and continue to work.

And yes it really does all this, it is fast in continuous shooting, it has an impressive autofocus system, an image sensor in the right megapixels.

Sony A9

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: Full frame
  • Megapixels: 24.2 MP
  • Lens mount: Sony E
  • Screen: 3 inch tilting touch screen, 1,440,000 dots
  • Display: Electronic
  • Maximum shooting speed: 20 fps
  • Maximum video resolution: 4K
  • Released: April / 2017

But what’s the catch then?

The first is the price, it is not the friendliest. The second is that the brand has few lens options designed for this kind of photography, sports and wildlife. Putting this aside the Sony A9 is an exquisite equipment any photographer would be happy to have one of these available.

Fujifilm GFX 50S

6xBjXUVBvM8y STaXQw4xo1YV1aDZaA eIoGbl2Ie5Ptc70Kda

Being at the forefront of things isn’t for everyone, and it doesn’t always happen, and that’s exactly what Fujifilm has been trying to do with the launch of the GFX 50S which is a medium format sensor camera.

Together with the Hasselblad X1D, the GFX 50S started a new generation of mirrorless cameras that make the medium format system much more practical, due to its size. The GFX-50s is a camera specialized in portraits with high resolution, due to the size of the sensor and its resolution.

Image quality is not a problem here, and for the more affluent it might be worth the investment.

Fujifilm GFX 50S

  • Type: mirrorless
  • Sensor: medium format
  • Megapixels: 51.4MP
  • Lens mount: G Mount
  • Screen: 3.2 inch touch and tilt, 2,360,000 dots
  • Display: Electronic
  • Maximum burst speed: 3 fps
  • Maximum video resolution: Full HD
  • Released: February / 2017

The GFX-50s opens the doors of a new world for mirrorless cameras and this is perhaps its main differential today, it is not a equipment for anyone.

With a high cost, at least for most, the GFX-50s is perhaps your best option to enter the world of medium format cameras.

Who here uses mirrorless? There’s something missing here in the comments.
